TRADES INVITED TO PRESENT AT COUNCIL ON DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICES

CCPA and the other trade associations were invited to participate in a meeting with the Council on Developmental Services to discuss the work of each association and to discuss provider perspectives and advocacy.

CCPA DESIGNATES REPRESENTATIVES FOR RATE TRANSITION COMMITTEE

Sheila Cordock, Executive Director, Whole Life and Steve Becker, CEO, HARC will be the two CCPA representatives to the Transition to Residential Rates Committee.

Four other individuals have offered to participate on at least one of the six working committees to be created by the larger Committee:  Lori Pasqualini, Ability Beyond Disability, Peter Carbine, Kennedy Center, Stan Soby, Oak Hill and Bill Allyn, CCARC.

According to Peter Mason, acting director of the Operations Center:  “As part of the Commissioner’s new focus on bringing individuals together to discuss an issue through stakeholder committees, the make-up should have equal representation for all those involved. This includes the Trades, families and other interested parties. While it is satisfying to know that so many providers are very interested in the transition to rates, the number of permanent representatives must remain at two in order to maintain equal representation of all the stakeholder groups. However, the committee spoke about the establishment of six working committees that will do the bulk of the work. This will provide your members with ample opportunities to provide input into the transition process.”

If you are interested in participating in an upcoming working committee, let me know at tedelstein@ccpa-inc.org

PROGRAM REVIEW COMMITTEE APPROVES DDS STUDY

On January 24 the Legislative Program Review & Investigations Committee approved the recommendations in the study Provision of Selected Services for Clients with Intellectual Disabilities.  Seven of the fourteen recommendations will be proposed as legislation in the upcoming session.  (Not all recommendations require legislative changes.)

Recommendation #4 focuses on executive salaries and staff wages:

“In future contracts DDS has with private providers, the department should examine the

salaries paid to direct care workers considering:

  • what they are paid relative to the agency’s executive director’s salary;
  • relative to wages needed for self sufficiency standards as calculated periodically by the Office of Workforce Competitiveness and the Office of Policy and Management and those that may be developed by the DDS Sustainability Subcommittee”
